I had the great privilege of spending many of my childhood weekends in the Goldfields country of central regional Victoria. Places like Castlemaine and the villages around it like Chewton and Fryerstown continue to be favourite destinations to wander and stay.

I love rugged countryside, the hills and dry forests, the miners’ cottages and well preserved towns and villages.

This painting was inspired by a recent weekend drive to Castlemaine.
