About Michele Owen

Michele is a multi-disciplinary Australian contemporary artist.

Her creative practice flows from her connection with nature and a fascination with history. She explores captivating places and the stories of the present, past and ancient times that converge there. Observation, emotional response and sensory perception intertwine to inform her abstracted landscapes.

Michele is primarily a painter and is currently also working with video and installation while she undertakes graduate studies in visual art at the Victorian College of the Arts.

She works on site at locations that speak to her, most recently the goldfields of Victoria and New South Wales, creating resources that inform her studio work. Her intention is to develop creative works that invoke the spirit and experience of the regions she visits.

Michele’s paintings features expressive gestural marks creating movement and rhythm that seem to reflect her former years as a dancer. Her interest in colour, light and layering can be traced to the continuing influence of the post impressionists and abstract expressionists in her work.

Michele has exhibited in Sydney and Melbourne and her work is held in private collections in Australia and internationally. She has been a member of the acclaimed Nillumbik Artists Open Studios trail.

Previously, she has trained in design and colour and has studied with many highly regarded Australian and international artists. Michele has been a professional artist since 2016 and previously had a meandering career in communications, project management, and as a health practitioner.

She lives and works on a small rural property nestled amongst rolling hills at the edge of the Yarra Valley in Victoria. Her original artworks are available for purchase from gallery exhibitions, her studio and online stockroom.
