One of the aspects I most love about the creative path I’m following as an artist is that there is never an end point. I often reflect on this when I explore new ways of working, learn a different approach or play with processes in the studio. I look at what I created a year ago, last month or even last week and compare it to what I created today. And always I see growth and, most excitingly, more new possibilities.
Last week in Journey to the Pearl Coast I took you to the historical pearling town of Broome in the dazzling remote north-west of Australia. I recently spent some time there with my husband and we were enthralled by the incredible landscape and the history of the area. My experiences in this beautiful wilderness area known as the Kimberley region, where the Australian outback meets the ocean, have become a major source of inspiration in my current series of works that form Saltwater Country.
My great passion for travel within Australia and internationally forms one of my main sources of artistic inspiration. I’m often drawn to isolated places of natural beauty that are rich with history and cultural significance. There’s a fascination for me in reconciling the past and present within the natural landscape which for the most part remains unchanged.
Welcome! Wishing you an abundance of love, laughter and wonderful experiences as we move into 2017. Onwards!
I took myself to the city a few days ago for some much needed art therapy. Recent world events, the ensuing barrage of social media outrage and the horrific Bourke Street pedestrian mall attack right in the very heart of my fair city of Melbourne have left me (and I’m sure many others) questioning the sanity of our world and feeling depleted and flat.
